Let's Talk: Women Against Sexual Assault

Our Crew

The Founders of Let's Talk

I'm Sofie. I graduated BHS in 2020. This lovely group of women and I are advocating for fairness and education regarding survivors of sexual assault.

I was sexually assaulted my freshman year of high school and fell victim to the lack of education and support surrounding rape and sexual assault on our island, and I want to make this community a better place for girls who may have to go through something similar. I felt silenced, dismissed, and isolated for three years until I finally came out about my abuse publicly and accidentally became the catalyst for this movement. I have a three-part interview with Wake Up Bainbridge about my experience.

I love to listen to music, make art, and use the wonderful gift I was given of a voice to speak out about pertinent issues! Don’t be shy to reach out to me for help, questions, suggestions, or just to talk!

I’m Mary. I’m 17 years old and going to be a senior at BHS this year. I have lived on Bainbridge Island my whole life. Us girls are advocating for change within our community concerning sexual assault. We want change for the future boys and girls of Bainbridge.

Sexual assault has been a huge part of my life since I was young and has only gotten more prevalent. So many girls I know have been assaulted throughout their lives and/or have been affected by it.

I love hanging out with my friends, going boating and playing with my dog. I’ve been involved with many different activism movements over the past years and am very passionate about issues concerning women! Let’s talk! DM or email me with questions, suggestions, or concerns!

I’m Lelaina Hughes. I am a former BHS student, I dropped out and got my GED at the end of 2019. I’m now a college student working towards becoming a RBT (registered behavior technician). I’ve lived on this island since I was in sixth grade and have been advocating for victims of sexual assault for as long as I can remember. I’m so lucky to have such an amazing, strong group of women to advocate with me.

Since I was twelve years old, I’ve been sexually assaulted four different times by four different people. During my time at BHS I struggled with PTSD, anxiety, and depression, which caused me to leave school to take care of my mental health and to get away from the toxic rape culture at the high school and in our community. No victims should ever have to drop out of school or sacrifice their education because of what someone else did to hurt them. I’m here to listen, understand and advocate for other victims.

I love making art, playing with animals, enjoying life with my best friends, and just having fun in general. My inbox is always open, please don’t ever be nervous to send me a message. The girls and I got your back!

My name is Ellie and I’m going to be a senior at BHS. A little backstory on me: I have been very passionate about women’s rights for as long as I can remember. When I was sexually assaulted last year, I was eager to change the way society handles sexual assault cases. I want to make this community a better place for victims of sexual assault.

I love the ocean, hanging out with my friends, activism, and using my voice and platform to advocate for things I’m passionate about. Let’s Talk! Email me or DM me with suggestions or questions!
